Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that a person has been discovered in the water near the Torpoint Ferry.
A spokesperson for the police said: ''Police were called at 10.55am today, 18 September, following concern for the welfare of a person found in the water near Torpoint Ferry.
''The person was pulled from the water and pronounced deceased at the scene.''
''MOD Police and ambulance were in attendance''
''Enquiries are being made to ascertain the person's identity and locate next of kin.''
One of the ferries has been taken out of service for the time being.
In a tweet from the Torpoint Ferry's controllers official Twitter account, Tamar Crossings, which operates the service, said: ''Due to unforeseen circumstances and an incident on the river, the Lynher has been taken out of service until further notice, we will resume service as soon as possible.''
