Plymouth Argyle, champions!

Well done to Plymouth Argyle on their 3-1 victory over Port Vale which has guaranteed their place as League One champions 2023. James Plant gave Port Vale a 1-0 lead after just three minutes but The Pilgrims fought to gain it back. Steven Scumacher’s Pilgrims have finished this epic season on a remarkable 101 points after 31 wins.

The Pilgrims closest contenders, Ipswich Town, ended their game against Fleetwood Town on a draw of 2-2, leaving Argyle 3 points ahead.

Adam Rendell and Joe Edwards gave Argyle their first two goals in the first half of the game with Finn Azaz securing a third in the second half, catapulting Argyle to League leadership.

The Pilgrims had the backing of a 4,000 travelling Green Army supporters. Many had travelled the distance in coaches, all joyous with hope and confidence that their beloved team would gain the title, and they weren't wrong. The supporters carried their buoyant attitude into the Hamill Road Stand behind one of the goals and you could hear their determination.

The celebrations began before the game had even ended, the Green Army knowing full-well that Argyle had claimed top prize.

Argyles team today consisted of: Callum Burton; James Wilson, Dan Scarr, Macaulay Gillesphey; Joe Edwards, Adam Randell, Jordan Houghton, Bali Mumba (Conor Grant 84 mins); Callum Wright (Jay Matete 72 mins), Danny Mayor (Finn Azaz h/t); Niall Ennis, Ryan Hardie.

The majority of the fans stayed in the stands to see Argyle receive their acclaim after what can only be called an enthralling season.

I can only imagine how the atmosphere on those coaches has been on the journey home!

Well done Plymouth Argyle from us all here at Janner Radio, Omnium Radio and Omnium News Desk.
